Well Construced Plot

Maura Lyle takes up a post as a nurse for an elderly gentleman, Gordon Henderson. He lives in a crumbling manor with just a daily cleaner for company. Although Gordon is not a particularly nice man & the manor is not a welcoming house, the job is not difficult. Just over the fields a new estate is being built on what was once the land belonging to the manor. That is until unearthed bones stop the work. Gradually Maura's world starts to unravel with strange goings on in the house and more recent deaths to contend with.

Although I enjoyed this book very much and relished its complexity and well construced plot, I did wonder if it would have been better with a few less twists & coincidences. You really do need to keep your wits about you in this book. Don't overlook any clue, you never know when it may become relevant. All of the threads were completed by the end of the book but it did leave me feeling slightly exhausted. I wonder how the author kept track of it all!

I have recently been introduced to Ann Troup's work & found it to be well constructed and clever.  They are all books which I would like to read in one sitting as I struggle to put them down. I shall certainly be seeking out more of her work.
